Article opinion: Malala Yousafzai: Portrait of the girl blogger

The taliban rule in the region of Mingora is very storng. On october 9, 2012 a protestant against the taliban movement in this region was shot. She was a 14 year old girl who wanted to recieve education, so she wrote a Blog to BBC Urdu anonymously, if not she would have been killed immediately.

Her blog told about her daily life like her fears of being killed by talibans or how her school was closed by talibans. At first the principal anounced the winter vacations but didn't announce a reopening day so Malaya was afraid that the talibans would close her school. Malala´s father was an outspoken educator who was threatened by the Taliban. She resived exile from the Swat valley. She started to advocate publicly and defend womens education in 2009.

I believe it was very brave what Malala did upon everything she kept writing and defending womens education. At first anonymously but when her name became public she didnt stop defending the womens eduction. She has won various peace pizes and nominations, she also has a documentary about her.

It is a really great thing that she survived the shots because there are few people that no matter the risks or the situation will always give their opinion among events. Her story has inspired me to fight for what I believe is right.

Opinionon article: Malala Yousafzai: Pakistan activist, 14, shot in Swat

After reading Persepolis by Marjane Setrap I was very impacted about the situation going in the Middle East. Reading this article made me realize that the situation hasn’t gotten any better for some countries. The article is about this activist girl whose name is Malala. Malala is a girl that lives in Mingora( a town in Pakistan), she received 2 shots one in the head and one in the neck. She got the 2 shots because she was campaigning for education. When she was 9 years old education was cancelled due to Taliban rule in the region. And at age 11 she started writing her Blog.

Her campaign was a blog writing for BBC Urdu, at first it was with a pseudonym, but when she strated winning awards and nominations her name came to the air.  In her blog she talks about her daily life and the Taliban movement in her region.

Malala had a lot of courage and determination to create a blog like that, and especially with the Taliban’s so close to her. I believe she did the right thing fighting for women equality. Women inequality is one of the biggest problems in the world most of it is caused by religion, to reach women equality is one of the milenium goals. I was shocked when I read this story, about the baldness of the girl and the cruelty of the taliban.

Persepolis reading blogs

Personal connection of the veil
In this section of the book the main character makes an intro of what she is going to talk about during the book. She talks of how religion was been forced on people and how the people reveled especially of her mother. She also talks of how she wanted to be a prophet when she was a little girl, that she was the chosen one by god. My connection is very similar to that, when i was a little kid I believed that god had chosen me and that i was going to have superpowers if i behaved. (Many kids dream of that). My comection to hers is kind of similar just that she wanted to be a prophet i wanted to be a super hero.

Persepolis
In this section of the book the garndmother comes to visit them, she tells how hard her life had been after the shah took everything from them. Then her father comes to he house and tells them how every dead person that entered the hospital was being comsidered a martyr. This reminds me a lot of A Song Of Ice and Fire: A Storm of Swords by George R.R Martin. When the lanisters overthrow the baratheons and every person wearing the Baratheon sigil was considered a hero, but every person wearing a lanister sigil was a reason for attack.

The sheep
In this section of the book the Marjane talks about emigration of the people because of the goverment. The goverment was now an islamic goverment, nobody liked that. She tells how everyone who revolted was now been murdered by the government. Then she tells how her uncle was sent to prison and then murdered. This section of the book reminds me kind of the situation in Venezuela, everyone is moving out of venezuela because they dont like chavez. Chavez is threatening the people that go against him so this section reminds me of chavez.

The passport
In this section a brother of the dad had a heart attack and needed open heart surgery in england. So he needed permision to go and get a passport. When his wife goes to the office where they give permission she discovers that the responsible of that is her old window washer. The man doesnt give her the permission and 3 weeks later the man dies. My questions for this section are: why was the window washer in a high place right now? Why didnt he give permission to get a passport? What role did religion play in this section? Why did the germans sell the toxic weapons and the medicine for the toxic weapons?

The dowry
In this section of the book Marjane gets expelled from her school and is transfered to another, where she speaks out against the religion teacher. Her parents decide that it is better for her to go away to vienna. They tell her that they'll be there in six months, but she realizes that they are lying that they are not coming to visit her. This reminds me of when i was going to camp i was only going for a month and my parents were very sad i cant imagine how it would be for them if i went away for ever.

Reading blog Gilgamesh, tablet: XI

In this section of the book Gilgamesh wants to find out how to become inmortal. So he goes in a quest to find Utnapishtim, the only human being to be accepted in the society of gods. Utnapishtim tells him the story of how the gods rewarded him for being wise and converted him and his wife into inmortals. Gilgamesh has to stay awake for seven days to prove his worth, but he falls asleep for seven days. The wife of Utnapishtim tells him that Gilgamesh traveled a difficult journey and he should be rewarded. He tells him of a flower that is beneath the sea that can turn him into a young person once again. When he is traveling to Uruk a Snake steels the flower. He then realizes that it is a sign for him to abandon the quest he has.

This part of the book reminds me of Pirates of the Caribean 4. The movie is about a pirate (jack sparrow) that wants to become inmortal so he goes in a dangerous quest to the fountain of youth. But in the way he finds many obstacles but when he finally gets to the fountain he realizes it is not meant for him to be inmortal. IT completely remids me of Gilgamesh because it is very similar. He also goes on a very dangerous quest and realizes he is not meant to be inmortal.

The Epic of Gilgamesh, reading blog: tablets VI-VII

Respond to the text personally
In this section of the book Gilgamesh is proposed by the godess Ishtar but Gilgamesh rejects the offer. So she sends the bull of the heavens to fight Gilgamesh. Nut when the bull comes it is not only Gilgamesh but also Enkidu fights the bull. They kill the bull. The gods in their rage decide to kill Enkidu.

None of my brothers are dead but if for some reason any of my brothers died I would get sad like Gilgamesh (i wouldnt insult the gods). But i feel a connection with my brothers as Gilgamesh with Enkidu. When one of us is afraid we would help each other like Gilgamesh and Enkidu. But now I will always cite Enkidu "two people, companions, they can prevail together aginst the terrors."

The Epic of Gilgamesh, reading blog: tablets IV to V

Connect text to another Book:
In this chapter Enkidu and Gilgamesh go to fight the guardian of the forest, they travel a long distance and have a dream saying that if the guardian has all seven terrors then he will be unvinceble. they get to the forest and fight him. First Gilgamesh is afraid then Enkidu is afraid. but they end up defeating him.
In some way I thought this book was related to Harry Potter, because when it says: That Huwawa is strongest and invincible when he has the 7 garments of terror on.  So he reminds me of Lord Voldemort and the 7 horcruxes (his soul splitted up into seven pieces) and Lord VOldemort is invincible if you havent destroied the seven Horcruxes. Also in some way Gilgamesh is Harry and Enkidu is Dumbledore, because they were the only two that could withsatnd Lord Voldemort.
The Epic of Gilgamesh, reading blog: tablets I - III
In this section of the book Enkidu is created, and he stoped a hunter form being a hunter. The hunter went to GIlgamesh to complain. Gilgamesh sends a prostitute to make all the wild creatures from being with Enkidu. Then Enkidu discovers that Gilgamesh rapes women, he goes to Gilgamesh and fights him. Gilgamesh and enkidu become friends and decide to go and fight the guardian of the forest.
Why would Gilgamesh and Enkidu embrace and kiss everytime Enkidu is sad?
Why would Enkidu and gilgamesh need to go the forest to fight the guardian?
Why did the beasts and gazelles run of when Enkidu lay down with the prostitute?
If gilgamesh had already dreamed about Enkidu being his partner then why would he wrestle him when he found him in the door?
Why did Enkidu get so angry when they said that gilgamesh was stronger?

What inferences I make.
1. First you can see that the elephants are in a pack because you can count 6 big legs so you know that the
baby and the mother are not alone. You can also infer that the pack is far from water because of the dryness of the grass.
2. Second I infer that the mother elephant is protecting her baby from something, because of the postion they are in, you dont see any movement so you know that the mother went ontop of the baby and that the baby didnt pass just beneath her.
3.You can infer that the baby is a new born because of his size and his mothers size, so if you compare the size you can infer that the baby is less than a week.
